How to set up Outlook 2007 mail for Windows XP

Detailed step-by-step instructions for Windows XP Outlook 2007 setup

The setup process is quite simple and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Incoming Mail Server Tech Details
Type: POP3
Mail Server Name: mail.youdomain.com.au ("yourdomain.com.au" is your websites domain name)
Port 110
Authentication: Password
SSL: OFF.


Outgoing Mail Server Tech Details
Type: SMTP
Mail Server Name: mail.youdomain.com.au ("yourdomain.com.au" is your websites domain name)
Port 25
Authentication: None
SSL: OFF

STEP 1.
Open Outlook by clicking the Start button and selecting Outlook, or by clicking All Programs, and then selecting Outlook.
STEP 2.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Account Settings.
STEP 3.
Click on the New button located on the left.
STEP 4.
On the next window that appears select the check box at the bottom Manually configure server settings or additional server types and then click Next.
STEP 5.
On the next window Choose E-mail Service the option Internet E-mail should be selected (this is the default choice) and then click Next.
STEP 6.
On the next window Internet E-mail Settings complete the various fields related with your personal data, server and logon information:

In the Server Information Area
Set the Account Type by using the drop-down and select POP3
Set the Incoming mail server: to mail.yourdomain.com.au (´yourdomain.com.au´ is your website domain name).
Set the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) the same as your incoming mail server, ie. mail.yourdomain.com.au (´yourdomain.com.au´ is your website domain name).


In the Logon Information Area
User Name: should be the email address you are setting the account up for.
Password: should be the password you are setting the account up for.
Remember Password: should be ticked if you dont want to enter a password every time you check your mail.
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication: Do not tick this box.
You can now click the Test Account Settings... If everything is ok you can then click the Close Button and press Next
STEP 7.
The Outlook setup process is now complete.
Click the Finish button and your done.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
I you are having trouble sending or receiving mail, you will need to check that the setting are correct. The most common issues are, incorrect POP3 password, not setting the correct Ports, enabling SSL, or the wrong authentication is set.
Right-click on the email account you want to check, and select Properties.
Click the Advanced Tab and check that the outgoing SMTP port is 25, that the incoming POP3 port is 110, POP3 and SMTP SSL is not checked.
