Integrated Attributes Manager

Overview of Products, Attributes and Options

Product Attributes and Options are ways of organising products in your store that make it easier for shoppers to buy from you. Used correctly, they can reduce the amount of actual product pages you have - making it easy for customers to find items, as well as helping improve SEO, by stopping search engines listing duplicate content for your site.

When would you use Attributes and Options?
You would use Attributes and Options when you sell an item that is available in various forms.

Example 1: You sell paint. The paint is available in 7 colours, and all the paints colours are sold in the one size - 1 litre cans. Instead of displaying 7 individual products (7 product pages 1 page for each colour), you display 1 product page, with 1 Attribute named Colour that displays 7 different Options in a dropdown menu, which in this case are colours - all on the one page. See Image 1.

Example 2: You sell computer systems that are available in various configurations. The most efficient way to show these configurations is with a series of dropdown menus. Each dropdown menu is an Attribute and has a number of Options assigned to it. See Image 2.

Attribute 1: Hard Disk with 2 Options available, 250 GIG ESATA or 500 GIG ESATA.
Attribute 2: RAM with 3 Options available, 2GB Generic, 4GB Generic or 6 GB Kingston.
Attribute 3: GRAPHICS CARD with 2 Options available, 256 MB NVIDEA GTS & 512 MB ATI
Attribute 4: WIRELESS with 2 Options available, Yes or No
Attribute 5: MONITOR with 2 Options available, 17" LCD BENQ or 21" LCD SAMSUNG

Each Attributes Option can also be assigned a price. eg 17" LCD BENQ or 21" LCD SAMSUNG (+$275.00)
The extra cost is added to the shopping cart and totaled with products base price. See Image 3.

NOTE: You can have as many Attributes and Options as you like.

How are Products, Attributes and Options structured?
In image 4 below:
1. The Product is called Womens T Shirt Example 3.
2. The Attributes Colour & Size are assigned to the Product.
3. A number of Options are assigned to the first Attribute "Colour" - Black, Blue, Green, Red etc.)
3. A number of Options are assigned to the second Attribute "Size" - 10, 12, 14 etc.)

- So the page shows that: Womens T Shirt Example 3 is available in 4 colours and 3 Sizes.

How do I assign Attributes and Options to my Product?

You can assign Attributes and Options 2 ways.
1. You assign Attributes and Options to Products by navigating to:  ADMIN-> Categories/Products->Products Attributes
or
2. You assign Attributes and Options to Products using the Integrated Attributes Manager which is at the bottom of each products page:  ADMIN-> Categories/Products (look at the bottom of the the products page)
Using the Integrated Attributes Manager makes adding Attributes a lot quicker and easier.
